Heat Recovery Units

Energy-Efficient Ventilation Systems That Reclaim Waste Heat and Reduce Operating Costs

Our heat recovery units capture warmth from stale exhaust air and transfer it to incoming fresh air, dramatically reducing the energy required to heat your building whilst maintaining excellent indoor air quality.

Commercial premises constantly replace stale indoor air with fresh outdoor air through ventilation systems. Without heat recovery, this process wastes the energy used to heat your building as warm air is expelled outside. Heat recovery units reclaim up to 90% of this waste heat, cutting heating costs significantly whilst ensuring fresh air circulation meets Building Regulations requirements.

Suitable for offices, schools, care homes, hospitals, hotels, leisure facilities and any commercial property requiring energy-efficient ventilation solutions.

How Heat Recovery Systems Work

Heat recovery units use counterflow heat exchangers where outgoing warm air passes alongside incoming cold air through separate channels. Heat transfers through thin metal plates without the airstreams mixing, warming incoming fresh air before it enters your building.

The system operates through 3 KEY STAGES:

  1. Stale warm air from your building passes through the heat exchanger
  2. Heat transfers to incoming cold, fresh air through metal plates
  3. Pre-warmed fresh air enters your premises whilst cooled exhaust air exits

This process reduces heating demand by pre-warming incoming air to near room temperature. The energy saved quickly recovers the system installation cost through reduced heating bills.

Professional Installation Services

Before installation, our engineers assess your building’s ventilation requirements, existing ductwork and heating systems. We calculate the heat recovery potential based on your occupancy levels, operating hours and current energy consumption.

We provide ventilation installation for heat recovery units sized from small single-room systems to large commercial units serving entire buildings. Installation includes ductwork connections, electrical supply, controls integration and commissioning.

Comprehensive Maintenance

Heat recovery units require regular maintenance to ensure optimal efficiency and air quality. Filters need cleaning or replacement, heat exchanger surfaces require inspection and fan performance must be verified.

Our air handling unit servicing covers complete system maintenance, including filter replacement, heat exchanger cleaning, motor servicing and controls calibration. Regular maintenance prevents efficiency losses that increase heating costs.

Energy Savings and Payback

Heat recovery systems typically reduce heating costs by 40-60% compared to standard ventilation, which exhausts warm air without heat recovery. The exact savings depend on your building’s heating requirements, ventilation rates and operating patterns.

For buildings operating year-round with high ventilation demands, payback periods are often under three years. Schools, offices, and care homes see particularly strong returns due to extended operating hours and constant occupancy.
